fascism: "A governmental system with strong centralized power, permitting no opposition or criticism, controlling all affairs of the nation (industrial, commercial, etc.)"
capitalism : the social system in which all property is privately owned, and the government's function is restricted to the protection of individual rights.
As we can see, both Fascism and Socialism, favor the whole, over the individual. Centralizing power, and controlling the means of living. These are both versions of statism( forms of government in which the government is given complete or extensive control over the lives of its citizens.) Basically, Fascism allows individuals to "own" property, while telling them what they can, or cannot do with it, while Socialism puts ALL ownership under the government. Either way, the individual owner has no right to determine his own destiny. Choices in self-destination are limited to "do what the Government tells you" or "suffer the consequences".
There is no difference in principle between the fascists and the socialists, consider the following revealing quotations from various infamous Nazis and other fascists:
We ask that the government undertake the obligation above all of providing citizens with adequate opportunities for employment and earning a living.
The activities of the individual must not be allowed to clash with the interests of the community, but must take place within its confines and for the good of all. Therefore, we demand:...an end to the power of the financial interests.
We demand profit sharing in big business.
We demand a broad extension of care for the aged.
We demand...the greatest possible consideration of small business in the purchases of the national, state and municipal governments.
In order to make possible to every capable and industrious [citizen] the attainment of higher education and thus the achievement of a post of leadership, the government must provide an all-around enlargement of our entire system of public education...We demand the education at government expense of gifted children of poor parents...
The government must undertake the improvement of public health -- by the greatest possible support for all clubs concerned with the physical education of youth.
[We] combat the...materialistic spirit within and without us, and are convinced that a permanent recovery of our people can only proceed from within on the foundation of The Common Good Before the Individual Good .
( Nazi party platform adopted at Munich, February 24, 1920;Der Nationalsozialismus Dokumente 1933-1945, edited by Walther Hofer, Frankfurt am Main: Fischer Bucherei, 1957, pp. 29-31).
Now, based on that, which do you think we are in the process of becoming? Or does it even matter? They are two sides of the same coin, and either way, are antithetical to the very ideals and principles that America was founded on! They demand that the entrepreneurial spirit of America give way to the collective.
We MUST NOT allow the failed policies of the fascism and socialism to take over our nation!
Stand UP! Pull your head out of the sand! Cry out against Entitlenments, and the Welfare state!
Refuse Government handouts, and "bait and switch" tax cuts for the poor, which penalize the people who produce, and give their wealth to those who won't work for their own betterment!

Now, you asked me "what do you think we are in the process of becoming?" The answer isn't a simple one, but if I had to answer, I would certainly say we're becoming a corporatist state. I presume - and I can only presume, you're not really fleshing out your thoughts here - you're for increasing privatization, whether it is utilities, natural resources (i.e. water), schools, etc. It is difficult for me to believe even a buffoon would see the inherent danger in selling off, whole cloth, portions of the U.S. infrastructure (which, by the way, is a prima facie example of Socialism in the U.S.) to private companies who are only beholden to their shareholders (which in many cases are not comprised solely of American citizens) and to their bottom-line (which ensures they, as you put it, will "favor the whole, over the individual"). You should consider this particularly in light of the most recent SCOTUS decision, which you'll note is arguably the greatest shift toward corporatism in the history of the United States, not to mention a casual destruction of the foundation of our legal system (i.e. Justice Roberts' precedent with regards to "spirited dissent").
I'm curious - what is a "'bait and switch' tax cuts for the poor"? Certainly, your statement that "people who produce" are penalized and "their wealth" is given to "those who don't work for their own betterment" is as hollow and callous a statement as could exist, and I shouldn't be surprised considering I've doubt you know much of anything regarding generational poverty or the myth of class mobility. These are typical talking points most "Republicans" or "Libertarians" or "Teabaggers" or whatever ridiculous moniker you're using nowadays puke up time and time again, but they always stem from a place of incredible ignorance. Can you provide ANY actual, quantitative support to your notions? At all? I don't care about empty ramblings, I want to see if you can put your money where your mouth is, so to speak.
I'm going to offer some actual quantitative data here for you to look at. I know I'll likely get the response from you I got with the "Red State Socialism" chart (which wasn't so much demonstrative of Republicans utilizing Socialism, but that one of the basic functions of our entire government - states providing revenue for expenditure on a national level - is inherent to our system, so when you slander Socialism you are either ignorant of how our government works or you simply don't understand our mixed economy), but maybe you'll start to notice that shouting rhetorically empty calls-to-action isn't a political platform so much as a package of thinly-veiled lies you've been sold by oligarchs to fool you into supporting shifts in government policy that will actually harm YOU (yes, YOU, the individual, whose civil rights are continually dissolving while you're babbling about "entitlenments".
Who controls American wealth? http://img697.imageshack.us/img697/3184/economicp...
The "bootstraps" line you and your ilk love to toe is an inaccurate reflection of reality, i.e. wrong: http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/8455/likeparentl...
But as long as people "work hard," right? RIGHT?

By your own words, I would definitely file you under the category of people "who won't work for their own betterment." Stop being a rank-and-file and actually put some time, thought, and research into your political beliefs instead of this juvenile "FUCK YOU, I GOT MINE" attitude fed to you by your corporate masters. Go ask John McCain how much money he got from the telecom industry to support privatization of the Internet ... then where would you put your blog? :(
